Pregnancy Bed Rest Survival Guide

Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful times of a women’s life, but it is not the same for everyone. Some women can still live normal lives, working, exercising, dancing and doing yoga; then there are women like me. Sometimes you just have to be a little more careful with your body during this time. Sometimes you have to rest and allow your baby to grow peacefully. It’s okay, being on bedrest doesn’t make your pregnancy any less beautiful.

I was on bedrest for almost 2 months in the hospital. I would like my experience to help someone else who may be going through the same situation so I put together some tips for survival. In no way do I consider myself an expert in this area, this is just how I was able to survive.

1.Stay Informed

Whatever your medical issue is, please do not allow your doctors be your only source of information. It is very important that you advocate for yourself and for your baby.  Learn about the possible outcomes, but tread lightly, don’t get yourself worked up. If you feel yourself feeling sad or anxious, then you should stop. Learn as much as you can about your condition without adding stress.

2.Start a journal

Even if you are not a person who likes to write or process your feelings in a journal, you can still benefit from this habit. You can start a health journal. In your health journal, you will document things like what you ate, what medicines you took, how many times you felt your baby kicking. It is really good to track your health during pregnancy even if you are not on bedrest.

3. Write letters to your baby (activate your faith!)

Writing letters to your baby even little cute notes sends the message that you believe that your pregnancy will be successful. Having Faith is so powerful!

4. Go Shopping!

In these digital days of online everything you can still purchase  everything that you need from your bed. Create an online registry and send it out to your family and friends. Create a checklist of what you need and search for the best price.

5. Do not feel guilty about crying or feeling sad

Suppressing  feelings could cause more stress so just allow yourself to cry as much as you want, and move on.

6. Take pictures

This is probably the single thing that I regret the most. I did not take enough pictures of my pregnant body.

7. Do something that you love!

Find a hobby, make a blanket, start a blog, write a book. Do something that makes you happy. This will make the time fly by and you will have something to show for your down time.
